Narrow Gauge Memories
Welcome to my new Narrow Gauge Memories. This site is devoted to my pictures of various narrow gauge (mostly steam powered) railways around the world. The first gallery has images of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad narrow gauge and its successor preserved lines. The second gallery covers other narrow gauge lines, plus a few standard guage pix. There are various sub-galleries designed to facilitate navigation. Hopefully the organization is easy to follow.
Click first on whichever gallery interests you, and once in the gallery click on a thumbnail to see a larger version. The larger versions are typically 950 to 1000 pixels wide and best viewed with a full screen to avoid scrolling. If you are using a dial-up connection the big images may be slow to load. To facilitate navigation forward and back, you can either use the forward and reverse buttons under the pictures, or click the right (forward) or left (back) upper corners of the image (usually but not always small arrows will appear in the upper corners of the picture). To go back to the thumbnails, click the "gallery" link in the top right corner. The browser software seems to work reasonably well for most folks, but I have found that there are problems with some browsers. My apologies if your browser is one of those.
Right now this site is very much a work in progress. The Rio Grande narrow gauge in the 60's is in relatively final form, although I expect to add a few more pictures of the D&SNGRR and the C&TS. Some additional galleries are being added with pictures and commentary about other narrow gauge lines around the world. In some cases I have added pix as "place keepers" but have not added captions.
Comments are very much appreciated, especially if you encounter software problems or find factual errors in my captions, many of which were done from memory. Please let me know if you have problems with the software. I have noticed on some computers, for reasons that are a total mystery to a computer dinosaur like me, that certain functions don't work quite right. But I have no idea how widespread this problem is, so feed back would be helpful.
There is a comments section at the bottom of the "Rio Grande in the 60's" front page. I know that's a strange location, but that is where it started and it can't be readily moved. Or please email me at "jbwest 'at' att.net".

And many thanks to John Craft for finding the gallery software for this site, and for hosting it.
Don't worry about the login below, that is just to allow me to do maintenance.
