Pink Ignacio.

September 1965. An unusually short eastbound train trundles by the closed Ignacio station. In the days of the San Juan this was a busy stop serving the Southern Ute tribal reservation which was headquartered at Ignacio. The agency here was abandoned around 1959, and when I first visited in the early 60's the door was unlocked and all the telegraph equipment (key, sounder, etc.) was still intact on the agent's desk. It was with only the greatest self control that I did not end up with set of genuine DRGW telegraph instruments in my trainroom! The station was painted red for the filming of Around the World in 80 Days with the understanding that it would be repainted back to Rio Grande colors....."abandonment white" in those days. But the repaint never happened and the red faded to pink.
