Durango as it was.

September 1965.

This is the last time I saw Durango with the complete engine servicing facilities. First the water tank was torn down, then the coaling tower, and finally the new turning loop was added. Durango was a classsic small yard and steam facility and yard that deserved preservation.

That rather strange looking train coming down the yard track (pushing a boxcar and a flat with a drag line on it) is a work train headed out to the Farmington branch. A fill had become saturated with water and needed replacement, so the Farmington branch was out of service for a couple of weeks while the fill was dug out and replaced (which is what the drag line was going to do).
